At these charity shopping sites you can purchase
items through online stores or shopping malls, and the site will give a small percentage of
the purchase price to charity. On some sites the sponsor has recruited specific charities
to be recipients of the donations. On other sites the sponsor has left the
registration open to all charities to list themselves, and shoppers can designate their favorite
organizations to receive the donation resulting from their purchase. Many of these sites are for-profit
enterprises that earn their revenues from advertising; the profit remaining
from the sale; and/or by taking a small percentage of the giving transaction.

purchased and from whom they were purchased, and can be "up to 40
percent" according to the site.

the shopper’s school of choice. The shopper registers on the site, selects a

www.shopforchange.com
ShopForChange is operated by Working Assets, a company that has raised more than
$50 million in donations for nonprofits working for peace, equality, human
rights, education and a cleaner environment. Anytime you buy something from one
of the merchants accessible through the site, Working Assets will donate $2 to
progressive causes. Each year Working Assets sends all registered ShopForChange
members a ballot to vote on how to distribute the donations it has collected to
the groups selected as that year’s recipients (about 60 organizations); the site also accepts nominations from members for
recipients to be added to the rotating list.
