Ways to Give

Charity Shopping Sites

At these charity shopping sites you can purchase items through online stores or shopping malls, and the site will give a small percentage of the purchase price to charity. On some sites the sponsor has recruited specific charities to be recipients of the donations. On other sites the sponsor has left the registration open to all charities to list themselves, and shoppers can designate their favorite organizations to receive the donation resulting from their purchase. Many of these sites are for-profit enterprises that earn their revenues from advertising; the profit remaining from the sale; and/or by taking a small percentage of the giving transaction.

www.care2.com
This for-profit company looks to help the environment through its online services. When a purchases is made from one of care2’s partner merchants, 10 percent of the revenue goes to environmental nonprofits. Care2 is a network of artists, environmentalists and business leaders.

www.charitymall.com
This site allows shoppers to purchase goods online at the regular price while donating to the Cancer Research Foundation. Each time a registered shopper makes a purchase at one of CharityMall’s registered online businesses, a commission of between 5 and 50 percent is paid by the business.

www.igive.com
When donors shop at igive’s online mall, a percentage of mall merchant’s profits are donated to a chosen cause.

www.mycause.com
MyCause.com is an associate of Amazon.com, Beyond.com, giftcertificates.com, MagMall, Outpost.com., flower.com, Travelocity and more. When a participant chooses a charity and links to a vendor, the charity is registered to receive a commission on any purchase made during that visit.

www.schoolmall.com
Each vendor that sells product on this site has agreed to pay a commission on each item that is bought. SchoolMall takes a percentage of the commission generated to cover the costs of technology and to expand its services. The percentage that your school receives is based solely on the amount of goods purchased and from whom they were purchased, and can be "up to 40 percent" according to the site.

www.schoolpop.com
Up to 20 percent of every purchase made through schoolpop.com goes directly to the shopper’s school of choice. The shopper registers on the site, selects a school and then goes shopping at the site’s online mall.

www.shopforchange.com
ShopForChange is operated by Working Assets, a company that has raised more than $50 million in donations for nonprofits working for peace, equality, human rights, education and a cleaner environment. Anytime you buy something from one of the merchants accessible through the site, Working Assets will donate $2 to progressive causes. Each year Working Assets sends all registered ShopForChange members a ballot to vote on how to distribute the donations it has collected to the groups selected as that year’s recipients (about 60 organizations); the site also accepts nominations from members for recipients to be added to the rotating list.
